Contract Beds – Some information for the hospitality industry by Millbrook Contract Beds

Welcome to the Millbrook Contract Beds blog.  We hope to be able to give you the very latest information and facts about contract beds over the coming year, as well as case studies, research and key factors for businesses who are interested in buying contract beds that are of good quality yet value for money.

To start off, we thought we would offer some general information and basic guidance on contract beds for use in the hotel industry, as this sector often utilises contract beds as a way to ensure the best service levels to customers, quality of bedroom furnishings and of course to fulfil legal requirements.

There are many reasons to choose a contract bed from refurbishment plans, through to one-off replacements, but we have highlighted below what we consider to be three of the basic considerations in buying a contract bed.

Perhaps most importantly, hotel beds should conform to certain standards of flame retardant levels to meet regulations which are much higher than those set for domestic use.   This is particularly important for independent hotels, who may not necessarily feel the need to purchase contract beds, or who may not know that some beds purchased within the domestic market for use in a hotel may not even be lawful.

Therefore, one of the first things to check is that the contract beds you are buying are compliant to British Standards.

Incidentally, Millbrook Beds Ltd. was one of the first pocket sprung bed companies to achieve B.S. 5750 and we are always happy to talk to clients if they would like advice in the area of compliancy or you can read more about our history here.

The next consideration is also price, but that does not mean you need to compromise on quality.  A contract bed company should be able to offer you a holistic approach based on your individual requirements and needs.  Therefore, if you are a very small independent hotel or bed and breakfast, you can still get the perfect contract bed for your level of client use, but within a smaller budget.  Whereas if you are a boutique hotel with a higher level of clientele and a need to offer your customers a much more sophisticated experience, you can still get a contract bed that delivers a good night’s sleep as well as the finer elements.

Finally, choosing a hand-finished contract bed allows you to opt for bespoke, non-standard size, which can be useful for those who want to cater for a wider range of customers and sleep experiences.
