Caring for those in poor health with quality contract beds

The-Therapy-Millbrook-Contract-Beds

Caring for those in poor health can be a difficult thing because they need to be kept as comfortable as possible. When someone’s health declines and they lose the ability to care for themselves, we have to offer them our assistance to ensure that they are looked after well and given the same quality of care that you would expect from a professional. They need a quality contract bed  More often than not, it’s someone that we love dearly and they need our help to stay at their best for as long as they possibly can. Declining health isn’t just a fact of old age anymore; it can affect younger generations, too, due to all sorts of maladies and illness. Continue reading »

Why a good mattress matters most in winter

Well, here we are. It’s the last week before Christmas and everyone’s getting in the swing of the Christmas festivities. During the winter months, our sleeping patterns are disturbed and suffer the most because of the sudden drop in temperature. In order to keep you 100 per cent comfortable as you sleep in winter, it’s important that your contract bed and mattress are in prime condition. If they aren’t the discomfort is going to prevent you from sleeping well and the likelihood is that you’ll be suffering from December through to March.

Merry Christmas from Millbrook Contract Beds

So it’s that time of year again and Millbrook Contract Beds is cosying up to the thought of a very Merry Christmas to come. If you’ve been following our blog you’ll see that we’ve been handing out some winter sleeping tips and ways of keeping yourselves warm during the colder months ahead, which we recommend you read for some good advice.

Now we feel it’s time to get festive!

As a run-up to the big day we thought we would focus on the best part of Christmas Eve… we’re not referring to the gatherings and parties or the Christmas specials on the television followed by the inevitable James Bond film or another showing of The Great Escape. We’re talking about that moment you get into bed, snuggle down to your pillow and drift off to sleep with one thought passing through your mind – its Christmas Day tomorrow!

It’s the magical moment for children, the calm before the storm for parents where they can find some brief peace, the moment of anticipation for excited teens and the excitement of the night before that everyone else just loves to feel, whether they are “bah humbug” people at Christmas or not.

We like the idea of beds playing such an important role during the Christmas period (generally considered the most positive day of the year, unless of course it’s a Christmas Day special on Eastenders). If you think about it, the purpose of beds at Christmas is kind of crucial to the whole mythology of Father Christmas…

The story goes that Father Christmas comes in his sleigh driven by eight reindeer plus Rudolph where he proceeds to slide down the chimney and drop off the presents under the tree for all the good children on his list while they sleep in their rooms, oblivious to his presence. It’s a great story that has lasted a long time and to this day is still a shared common belief amongst young children.

If we read into the myth of Father Christmas then a practical reality behind the story begins to emerge. Could it be that the moral of the story was originally to get children to behave all year round and to go to bed at reasonable times?

And does it still work? Well, in the build-up to Christmas it does. Children start behaving a little bit better than usual as the all-seeing, all-knowing Father Christmas incorporeally presides over the month of December to keep an eye on things. It’s the only time of year when children actually want to go to bed earlier!

Your beds are important all year around of course, whether its yuletide or not. At Millbrook Contract Beds we feel that the magic of Christmas really is to do with that night before when restless children countdown the minutes to sleep in their beds so they can wake up sooner to open their presents. Beds play a major role in all of our lives – they offer us warmth, comfort, security and privacy. They are the major parts of every home and for those of you who are using Millbrook beds or contract beds this December, we hope they give you a peaceful and glorious night’s sleep on Christmas Eve so you wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the most joyous day of the year.

Merry Christmas from all of us here at Millbrook. :)

Don’t keep your cool, stop those draughts!

Keep-out-the-cold-with-Millbrook

Millbrook Contract Beds has discovered a disturbing fact about winter. During these icy, cold months, the average home in the UK and Ireland will leak about 20 per cent of the internal heat generated. When you are putting on the central heating or starting a fire, keep that statistic in mind. That could mean that you’re essentially just haemorrhaging both heat and money if you turn on the heat. Given the prices of energy and gas these days, that’s a lot of money straight down the proverbial plughole. Continue reading »

Don’t let your bedroom become a domain of distractions

Sleeping advice from Millbrook Contract Beds

Millbrook Contract Beds has experience in quality beds and mattresses and we know our stuff when it comes to getting a restful and peaceful night’s sleep. One of the biggest causes of insomnia is the blurring of the line between bedroom and living room. Since televisions, smartphones and laptops became a driving force in our lives, we are no longer limited to specific locations when we want to watch a show, listen to music or check our Facebook pages. The line between living room and bedroom is almost invisible now and bringing these distractions into our bedroom suddenly stops the bedroom from being a quiet and restful place. It suddenly becomes a domain of distractions.

Dreamscape Part 3 – The importance of dreams in our lives

In the last two blogs we have explored the realm of dreams and nightmares to understand to some extend how they work. The importance of dreams and what they do for us while we rest is vital. During the night you can work through many anxieties and stresses that burden you in your waking life. Sleep and dreams go hand-in-hand as psychological release valves for all the things that your conscious and subconscious processes on a day to day basis.

In this third part of our Dreamscape blog series we here at Millbrook Contract Beds have turned our attentions to digging deeper into this heavily layered, meaning laden universe where the impossible becomes possible and the dreams we experience open our minds up to the limitless realms of the imagination.

So why is dreaming important? Why do we need it?

The real question is; do you sleep in order to dream or do you dream in order to sleep?

Dreams act as more than just fantasy plays for the subconscious; they are actually integral to shaping and conditioning the personality and behaviour of the sleeper. A person who is deprived of dreams through poor quality sleep, whether it is from audible disturbances, sleep disorders, worn out contract beds, unbalanced room temperatures etc. will noticeably suffer shifts in mood and character the following day.

Dreaming is our literal escape for both mind and body. It allows your brain to work through issues (ones you are both aware and unaware of) and it leaves time for your body to rest and regenerate. Dreaming is a key part of being human.

What has scientific research found on the subject?

Studies have found that people intentionally woken up before drifting into REM sleep (where dreaming begins) are left impaired for their general daily functioning. It has been argued that it is not just the sleep deprivation but also the denial of the brain’s release and its allowance to dream. Test have been conducted over the years to prove this definitively and evidence emerged that test subjects experienced disorientation, depression, short temper and irritability the next day.

The deprivation of REM sleep has been shown to cause over-sensitivity, loss of concentration and in some cases memory loss.

Obviously dreaming is an important element of remaining healthy both psychologically and physically revitalising a person for their next wake-up call. Dreams act as metaphor and enigmas in our heads to help us fight our demons, our fears, our worries, all the things that play on our subconscious and inform everything that we do in our day-to-day live. So when viewed in this context dreaming is actually VERY important.

Our experience in the area of sleep and dreams has led us to build up our contract bed collections over the years in order to provide the best quality sleep experiences. If you would like to contact us please do or you can follow Millbrook Contract Beds on Twitter.

We hope that you continue to have sweet dreams in the meantime…
