Millbrook Contract Beds Presents The Children’s Guide to Sleep Part One

As Christmas comes into full view this week, we were thinking about just how many children out there are anticipating the big day. As we explored in a previous blog, Christmas Eve is the only day in the year when children actually want to go to bed early!
So in keeping with that idea and in the spirit of Christmas, Millbrook Contract Beds wishes to talk about children’s sleep, its importance and how to get the kids to have enough of it. Continue reading »
Merry Christmas from Millbrook Contract Beds
So it’s that time of year again and Millbrook Contract Beds is cosying up to the thought of a very Merry Christmas to come. If you’ve been following our blog you’ll see that we’ve been handing out some winter sleeping tips and ways of keeping yourselves warm during the colder months ahead, which we recommend you read for some good advice.
Now we feel it’s time to get festive!
As a run-up to the big day we thought we would focus on the best part of Christmas Eve… we’re not referring to the gatherings and parties or the Christmas specials on the television followed by the inevitable James Bond film or another showing of The Great Escape. We’re talking about that moment you get into bed, snuggle down to your pillow and drift off to sleep with one thought passing through your mind – its Christmas Day tomorrow!
It’s the magical moment for children, the calm before the storm for parents where they can find some brief peace, the moment of anticipation for excited teens and the excitement of the night before that everyone else just loves to feel, whether they are “bah humbug” people at Christmas or not.
We like the idea of beds playing such an important role during the Christmas period (generally considered the most positive day of the year, unless of course it’s a Christmas Day special on Eastenders). If you think about it, the purpose of beds at Christmas is kind of crucial to the whole mythology of Father Christmas…

The story goes that Father Christmas comes in his sleigh driven by eight reindeer plus Rudolph where he proceeds to slide down the chimney and drop off the presents under the tree for all the good children on his list while they sleep in their rooms, oblivious to his presence. It’s a great story that has lasted a long time and to this day is still a shared common belief amongst young children.
If we read into the myth of Father Christmas then a practical reality behind the story begins to emerge. Could it be that the moral of the story was originally to get children to behave all year round and to go to bed at reasonable times?
And does it still work? Well, in the build-up to Christmas it does. Children start behaving a little bit better than usual as the all-seeing, all-knowing Father Christmas incorporeally presides over the month of December to keep an eye on things. It’s the only time of year when children actually want to go to bed earlier!
Your beds are important all year around of course, whether its yuletide or not. At Millbrook Contract Beds we feel that the magic of Christmas really is to do with that night before when restless children countdown the minutes to sleep in their beds so they can wake up sooner to open their presents. Beds play a major role in all of our lives – they offer us warmth, comfort, security and privacy. They are the major parts of every home and for those of you who are using Millbrook beds or contract beds this December, we hope they give you a peaceful and glorious night’s sleep on Christmas Eve so you wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the most joyous day of the year.
Merry Christmas from all of us here at Millbrook.
Don’t keep your cool, stop those draughts!
Millbrook Contract Beds has discovered a disturbing fact about winter. During these icy, cold months, the average home in the UK and Ireland will leak about 20 per cent of the internal heat generated. When you are putting on the central heating or starting a fire, keep that statistic in mind. That could mean that you’re essentially just haemorrhaging both heat and money if you turn on the heat. Given the prices of energy and gas these days, that’s a lot of money straight down the proverbial plughole. Continue reading »
